Dear Colleague,

I am pleased to welcome you to the 11th Annual International Workshop on Nanomechanical Sensing (NMC 2014). The NMC 2014 will be held in Madrid from April 30th to May 2nd, 2014. This year we will be celebrating 10 years of the Workshop on Nanomechanical Sensing that befell for the first time in 2004 in Madrid. The conference will take place in the conference room of the Hotel NH Eurobuilding.

The Workshop on Nanomechanical Sensing focuses on sensors based on nanomechanical transducers such as cantilevers, MEMS/NEMS, as well as local probes. Subtopics include:

- Biological sensors
- Chemical sensors
- Instrumentation
- Novel transduction concepts
- Theory & Modeling
- Micro-/Nanofabrication
- Merging with other sensing techniques

This year we will have a special focus session dedicated to the exciting field of cell mechanics.

The NMC 2014 will bring together leaders from both academia and companies to discuss innovative developments in this exciting field in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Speakers at NMC2014 are invited to contribute to the forthcoming Thematic Series of EPJ Techniques and Instrumentation on "Fundamentals of Nanomechanical Transduction". This thematic series closely matches the scope of NMC 2014, focusing on recent advances on the development of structures, devices and systems for nanomechanical transduction.

I am looking forward to see you in Madrid.
